Everyday access

Gates & Access:
styles & options.

The practical questions come first. Is this a daily walk gate, access for lawn equipment or a wider opening? Does the ground rise through the swing? Is an existing post moving? We build gates and address gate problems as part of the fence and the surrounding site.

A gate for every way you use the property.

The opening is where the fence becomes part of everyday life. Start with what needs to pass through, then choose a style that belongs with the surrounding fence.

Side-yard walk gates

01

Side-yard walk gates

Plan a convenient path from the front to the backyard. Review the clear opening, latch position and swing around walls, landscaping and changes in level.

Double openings
Beaufort Fence project
02

Double openings

Discuss wider access for equipment and larger items. Include the space each leaf needs, how the opening will be secured and whether it needs to meet an existing fence.

Open rail-and-wire gates

03

Open rail-and-wire gates

Keep the boundary visually open while coordinating the gate with the fence. The wire, openings and bottom clearance should be reviewed for the intended use.

01

Measure usable clearance, not only the gap

List the mower, equipment, bins or other items that need access. Explain how often each opening will be used and whether the approach is straight or tight. The planned clear opening and the space needed for the gate to move both matter.

02

Include the frame, posts and hardware

A gate is more than the boards or infill you see from the yard. Ask the proposal to identify its supporting posts, frame, hinges, latch and any hold-open or securing hardware. The gate design should be considered with the fence sections beside it and the actual site conditions.

03

Separate a new opening from a repair

For an existing gate, describe whether it drags, moves at the hinge, fails to latch or has damaged framing. Photograph the supporting posts and adjoining fence as well as the gate. That context helps distinguish a hardware adjustment from a wider repair or replacement scope.

Before we get started

A few good questions.

Can you repair a gate that drags?

Yes, gate repairs are part of our services. The cause and appropriate repair depend on the gate, hardware, posts and ground conditions.

Can I add a gate to an existing fence?

We can discuss it. Send photos of the fence and the location you have in mind so the opening and support needs can be reviewed.

Do you install automated gate operators?

Ask us about your specific project before assuming automated access is included. This website’s confirmed gate scope covers fence gates and gate repairs; powered access requires separate confirmation.

Can the gate match the style of a new fence?

Yes. Plan it alongside the fence so the board pattern, top profile, finish and hardware are considered together. Include the opening in the original estimate rather than treating it as a separate finishing detail.

Which way should my gate open?

Review the available swing space, ground level, paths and nearby structures. The answer depends on the property and any applicable requirements. Include how you approach the opening and the equipment that must move through it.

What photos help with a gate repair?

Send the closed gate from both sides, the hinge and latch areas, the supporting posts and the ground beneath the swing. A short description or video of what is happening can help explain a sticking or alignment problem.
